A South Fork woman was arrested twice in one day after an incident in Wolfe County and at the Three Fork Regional Jail.
Carmie J. Smith, 47, of J. Wise Allen Lane, was arrested in Wolfe County on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on a Suspended or Revoked License, Failure to Surrender Revoked Driver’s License, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance – Meth (First Offense, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after a traffic stop at 3:18 p.m. on July 2.
She was arrested and transported to the Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville by Wolfe County Jailer Albert Lykins.
As part of the booking process, officials used a digital scanner to search Smith and noticed anomalies in the scans.
Three Forks investigator Cory Dunaway, Jailer Albert Lykins, Administrator Jared Pelfrey, and Lee County Sheriff Justin R. Shuler recovered “a substantial amount of drugs” from Smith.
Dunaway and Jailer Lykins searched the jail transport vehicle and located three more bags of suspected methamphetamine between the seats where officials allege Smith had stashed them.
Smith was charged with two counts of Trafficking in a Controlled Substance - greater than two grams- Methamphetamines (First Degree, First Offense) and one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence after she allegedly attempted to smuggle the illegal drugs into the jail facility and attempted to hide them in the jailer’s car.
She was arrested a second time at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday and charged with drug-related violations at the Three Forks Jail.
She currently has two pending court appearances: one in Lee County on July 14 and a second appearance in Wolfe County for arraignment on July 15.
