A Jackson woman who neighbors said was walking the street without clothing was arrested on Saturday.
Shelia Kaye Smiddy, 52, of Patton Avenue, was arrested by Jackson Police Officer Cody Lovings and charged with one count of Indecent Exposure (First Degree, First Offense) and one count of Public Intoxication of a Controlled Substance (Excluding Alcohol).
According to arrest records, the Jackson Police Department received a call at 6:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, reporting a naked woman attempting to enter a residence at 1906 Patton Avenue.
Officer Lovins responded to the call and did not find Smiddy at 1909 Patton.
Lovins began his search of the area and quickly located Smiddy as she attempted to enter the Jackson Independent School offices at 1909 Patton Avenue.
She was arrested, and Officer Lovins ripped holes in a garbage bag and used it as makeshift clothing because there were children in the area who saw Smiddy.
A witness told Lovins that he saw Smiddy walking naked in the roadway before Lovins arrived.
She was taken to the Jackson Police Department and transported to the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard, where she was lodged at 8:27 p.m.
Smiddy was arraigned before Judge Gary Salyers on Monday, July 13, and a public defender was assigned to her.
She remains lodged in jail under a $1,000 cash bond, and a pretrial conference in her case is set for July 16.
