The Breathitt County Board of Education approved several roof replacement projects and the acquisition of new iPads and computers.
The board voted unanimously to purchase 100 new iPads with cases and maintenance plans to resupply Kindergarten through second grade, and 575 Chromebook devices and Google upgrades to meet the needs of current and incoming students. According to board information, the total purchase would exceed $200,000 and support the district's technology needs.
During the meeting, the board members approved payments for roof plans at Breathitt High School and a contract to replace the roof at Highland-Turner School.
Allen Construction was awarded the bid to replace the roof and complete some site work at Highland-Turner School for $1,312,065. The project would replace the roof, which has had several issues, and correct drainage issues in the school's gutter system on Highway 30 West.
The board also approved and paid for the architectural work completed by Tate Hill Jacobs on the H-T renovations.
The payment for the architectural work from “beginning of project through start of construction” for the replacement of the roof at Breathitt High School was also approved on Tuesday night by the board. The board approved a payment of $91,984.12 to Tate Hill Jacobs for the completed planning work.
The board members approved the payment of numerous invoices to advance or close out work on various projects, including the new area vocational center.
Early in the meeting, the board recognized the BHS Cheerleaders and students and faculty associated with several successful academic teams.
The members of the board retired to executive session to discuss possible, proposed, or pending litigation and actions that “may lead to the appointment of an individual employee,” as established by KRS 61.810.
