Roger Gibbs, 70, of Jackson, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard. Born on December 21, 1955 in Ashland, Kentucky, Roger lived a life filled with love, faith and dedication to his family and community.
Roger was a devoted husband to his wife of 46 years, Debra Morris Gibbs. He is also survived by his son, Roger Robert (Erica) Gibbs and his daughter, Kristi Gibbs. He was the proud grandfather of Emily Cline, Jared Gamble and Amber Gamble. Roger cherished his family deeply and found immense joy in spending time with them.
He is also survived by his brothers; Billy (Angie) Gibbs, Wendell (Ruth) Gibbs, Frank Gibbs and Charles Gibbs; his sisters; Lisa Fraley, Charlene (Rick) Purnell and Beatrice Carroll; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Arlie and Hildreth "Sally" Gibbs; his biological mother, Margie Kiser; his sisters, Loretta Boyd and Trina Gibbs and his daughter, Heather McIntyre.
Roger dedicated much of his career to serving the Lawrence County Board of Education as a bus driver. His work reflected his commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of students in his community.
A man of deep faith, Roger attended Have Faith in God Tabernacle and Providence Pentecostal Church. His spiritual life was central to who he was—he loved watching Christian videos, listening to gospel music, studying Bible prophecy and sharing his beliefs with others.
Roger’s hobbies brought him great joy and showcased his vibrant personality. Known as a grill master with a knack for pulling pranks and never meeting a stranger, he had an infectious sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. He enjoyed mowing grass and detailing his beloved S10 truck with meticulous care. Festivals and amusement parks were among his favorite outings, where he delighted in creating memories with loved ones. A loyal fan of Kentucky basketball games and an avid news watcher, Roger always stayed engaged with the world around him.
His dog Lucky held a special place in Roger’s heart as a constant companion during quiet moments at home. Whether spending time outdoors doing yard work or enjoying fellowship at church gatherings, Roger embraced life fully.
Visitation for Roger will be held Friday, August 14, 2026 at the Breathitt Funeral Home form 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM with his funeral service scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 1:00 PM with Robert Butler and Gary Bellamy officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jackson Cemetery with Roger Robert Gibbs, Billy Gibbs, Luke Rousseau, Wendell Gibbs, David Gross, Kenneth Patrick, Gary Mullins and Luis Rentas servig as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Larry Little, Kenneth Bowling and Elvis Noble.

Roger’s legacy is one of love for family, faith in God, hard work and kindness toward all who crossed his path. His memory will be cherished by those who knew him.
