Lonnie Delbert Shaffer, 77, passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Born on October 11, 1948 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Dexter Delbert and Virginia Mae Burdette Shaffer.
Lonnie moved to Jackson in 2022 to be closer to his daughters, Jenna Shaffer of Letcher County and Melissa Hall (Jeremy) and his grandchildren, Addyson Hall and Jaxton Hall, all of Jackson. He also wanted to be closer to his ex-wife, Germaine Shaffer who he called the "mother of his children and best friend."
Lonnie had three children by a previous marriage, Jill, Rhonda and David Shaffer, all of Phoenix, AZ.
Lonnie was a proud US Army veteran. After he retired, he began an extended career as a truck driver, both long haul and hazmat. His patriotism and work ethic reflected his commitment and determination, qualities that defined most of his life.
Lonnie's memory will be cherished by those who love him.
A private service will be scheduled at a later date.
