Barbara Jean Spencer, 78 of Curt Road in Jackson, Kentucky entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at the Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, Kentucky.
Born on September 9, 1948 in Breathitt County, Kentucky, Barbara lived a life centered on family, faith and hard work. She was a Christian and retired from social services after 18 years of work.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Preston Spencer; her father, Gilford McKinney; her mother, Cleonia Gross McKinney; and her brothers, Carlos Ray McKinney and Eddie Wayne McKinney.
She is survived by her sons, Wallace Spencer (Farrah) and Randy Spencer (Kathy); her sister, Arbutice Ritchie; her grandchildren, Timothy Neace ( Ashley), Nicole Trent (Joe), Payton Spencer, Brian Spencer and Waylon Spencer; her great-grandchildren, Kadence Neace, Cameron Saint, Kayden Trent, Tyson Neace and Kyndle Trent (Mamaw's baby); and a special niece, Lisa Ritchie.
Barbara found joy in the people who meant the most to her. Her two boys, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her family were at the heart of her life. She also enjoyed auctions and yard sales and took pleasure in canning.
Visitation for Barbara will be held Thursday, October 15, 2026 at the Breathitt Funeral Home from 5:00 to 9:00 PM with her funeral service to be held Friday, October 16, at 1:00 PM with John Tincher officiating.
Burial will follow in the Spencer Cemetery on Town Hill Road at Jackson with Joe Trent, Brian Spencer, Ronnie Begley, Eric Begley, Kayden Trent, Bentlee Turner, Timothy Neace and Tyson Neace serving as pallbearers.
Those who knew Barbara Jean Spencer will remember a life rooted in devotion to family and marked by steady work and enduring faith. Her memory will remain with all who knew and loved her.
