Danny Phipps grinned when he talked about what he called his “second retirement.”
He officially retired from this position with the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Office and the Administrative Office of the Court on December 31 after seven years of service at the Breathitt County Judicial Center.
It truly was his second career. Phipps joined the security staff at the Breathitt County Judicial Center in 2018 after leaving the United States Postal Service after thirty years. He accepted the position as a security guard and deputy for the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Office, where he worked for seven years.
Phipps had previously served four years as a deputy for the Wolfe County Sheriff’s Department.
When asked what he plans to do in his retirement, Phipps discussed the community's needs and some ideas he had in mind.
“I finally have enough time to volunteer,” he said.
Phipps recently served one term on the Jackson City Council from 2023 to 2024 and chose not to seek reelection.
Breathitt County Sheriff John Hollan presented a plaque to Phipps on January 2, as the now former deputy officially turned in his keys and security equipment to the Sheriff’s office.
“Danny is a good man and a hard worker,” Breathitt County Sheriff John Hollan said as he presented the plaque. “We are going to miss Danny.”
