One Injured In Highway 52 Double Wreck

Posted

A “strange” crash on Highway 52 on Sunday sent a Jackson man to the hospital.

Kenneth W. Thompson, 63, of Frozen Creek, was transported to the Kentucky River Medical Center on February 15 after his Lexus ES 350 dropped off the roadway and came to rest in Cane Creek near Hurricane Branch Road.

The vehicle left the roadway after the front passenger tire dropped off the edge of the blacktop.  Thompson attempted to correct and return the car to the roadway, but it crossed a culvert and traveled about 100 feet down the creek bed.

A crew in Lee County Ambulance Unit 51, passing the scene 2.8 miles out on Highway 52 on their way back to Beattyville, saw the vehicle in the creek and stopped.  Emergency responders activated their lights and were preparing to check on the driver of the car when a third vehicle struck the ambulance from behind.

No injuries were reported in the ambulance or the driver who hit them.

Officers from the Kentucky State Police and Breathitt County Ambulance responded to the scene at 4:01 p.m. on Sunday.

Trooper Matt Turner is investigating the accident.
