Henry Cecil “Pops” Hurst of Campton, KY passed away peacefully at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY at the age of 85. Family and friends had been with him during his stay in the hospital.
Henry was born September 15, 1940, at Wilhurst, KY in Wolfe County, KY. He graduated from Breathitt High School in 1960, shortly thereafter he was drafted into the Army. He served and fought in the Vietnam War. Those that served with him in his group called him POP because he was the oldest in his group the rest were in their teens. He enjoyed going to the reunions and seeing those that served with him. Henry’s family and friends meant everything to him. His memory will be forever treasured and never forgotten.
Henry was the son of the late Charles Taylor and Ruby Mae Lawson Hurst. He was also preceded in death by his brother: Paul Hurst. His two sisters: Sylvia DeVilbiss and Patricia Lynn Dickerson. His nephew: Charles E. Conway. He is survived by his loving sister: Margaret Conway of Mt Sterling, OH. His nephews: Stephen Hurst, Christopher Hurst and Nathan Dickerson. His nieces: Teresa C. Lemieux, Beverly Stukenbarg, Rita Schneible, and Sandra Bocock. Cousins: Alberta Hurst, Kenny Lawson and Rebecca Mason. He is also survived by a host of great nieces, great nephews, many other cousins, other relatives and many friends.
A funeral service and Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home with David Fletcher officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm until time of service. Military Rites to be observed. In lieu of flowers, donations requested be made to Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/) or provide a donation to your local ministry in the name of Henry Hurst.
