Dry Grass Causes Quicksand Fire

Posted

A fast-moving grass fire at Quicksand on Monday afternoon nearly caused a disaster for one homeowner.

According to reports, Steve Hale was burning some “sticks and twigs” on his property when the wind spread the blaze to the dry grass nearby.

Firefighters from the Quicksand and Jackson Fire Departments received a report that the fire had spread quickly and was endangering a home at 200 Woodcenter Drive shortly before 12:30 p.m. on January 5.

The Jackson Fire Department was called to help Quicksand after they experienced an issue with their truck.

Crews arrived on the scene and helped extinguish the blaze before it spread to several nearby wooden structures.

The wind-driven grass fire scorched several hundred square yards of grass before the blaze was stopped.

All that was left was blackened grass and the “foul smell” left by the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene for nearly an hour to ensure that the unusual blaze was completely out.
