Douglas Gary Byrd, 35, of Jackson, Kentucky, departed this earthly life Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Born on August 13, 1990, Douglas lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family and a love for the outdoors.
A graduate of Wolfe County High School, Dougie went on to build a career as a Class A CDL driver and heavy equipment operator. His dedication to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and his faith. A God-fearing man and a member of Little Turkey Creek Baptist Church, Douglas found strength and purpose in his spiritual beliefs.
Dougie shared 11 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Holly Hollan Byrd. Together they built a loving home filled with joy and cherished memories. He was the proud father of six children: sons, Chance Byrd, Ayden Byrd and daughters, Akeira Byrd, Adylee Byrd, Felicity Byrd and Paizley Byrd. His children were the center of his world and he treasured every moment spent with them.
He is also survived by his mother, Norma Dunn; father, Douglas Byrd; stepfather, John Berger; and sisters, Renee Cannon, Hailey Byrd and Misty Byrd. Douglas’s life was further enriched by the companionship of his special friend, Jared Jenkins and a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Dougie had a deep appreciation for nature and found peace in hiking through the woods, fishing by tranquil waters and watching sunsets that painted the sky with vibrant colors. These moments spent outdoors were not just hobbies but reflections of his connection to the beauty of creation. Above all else, he cherished time spent with his family—whether exploring nature or simply enjoying each other's company.
Dougie’s unwavering faith guided him throughout his life. His kind spirit and steadfast devotion left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He will be remembered for his love of God, his dedication to his family and the joy he brought to others.
Visitation for Dougie will be held Monday, May 18, 2026 at the Breathitt Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and his funeral service is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 19 at 1:00 PM with Mike Tabor officiating.
Burial will follow in the Caudill Cemetery at Turkey Creek with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
