A Breathitt County man who worked for decades at the Social Security Office has found a new position but remains focused on helping others.
Gary Brian Curtis spent 15 years serving at the Social Security Administration, most recently holding the position of Claims Representative in the Jackson office. He also held the position of Operations Supervisor in Ashland, Hazard, and Pensacola, Florida.
While working for the SSA, Curtis was dedicated to helping residents understand and navigate the disability claims application process.
"It was an incredibly rewarding job, and I’m grateful for my time with the SSA," Curtis said. “I saw a growing need in our community for highly informed advocacy. Joining the Carmichael Law Group LLC allows me to use my knowledge to directly represent my neighbors and ensure they get the benefits they deserve, which can be a complex and stressful process to navigate alone."
A representative for the Carmichael Law Group, an Alabama-based legal services firm, said the hiring of Curtis was a “move set to significantly boost legal services for residents navigating disability claims.”
"This is a major win for the people of Eastern Kentucky," said Brian R. Carmichael, Lead Attorney for the firm, in a statement on Tuesday. "Bringing someone with Brian’s deep understanding of the Social Security system onto our team means our clients will have an unparalleled level of insight into their disability cases, from initial application to administrative hearing."
"We’ve always prioritized personalized service, but Brian Curtis elevates our capabilities instantly," Mr. Carmichael added. "He understands the internal language, the crucial timelines, and the specific documentation needed to build a winning case. Our investment in this level of acumen is an investment in our clients’ financial security."
Curtis will focus on conducting hearings before Administrative Law Judges.
“If you want someone you know and someone you can trust by your side during your hearing,” Carmichael said Tuesday, “Call or text Brian at 850-208-8136 or visit www.carmichaellawgroup.com, and he will be happy to point you in the right direction.”
Before his career at SSA, Curtis served ten years as a member of the Kentucky National Guard and is a proud veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom III.
Disclaimer: Gary Brian Curtis is not an attorney; however, he has passed a rigorous exam and meets all SSA's requirements to represent before SSA as an EDPNA. No representation is made that the quality of the legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.
