The Breathitt County Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, April 28, and worked through a long, multi-page agenda.
Board members approved thirty-nine action and consent items as they worked through the agenda.
Among the items approved were several applications and forms needed to apply for Kentucky Department of Education assistance with the food service programs at the district schools. Several fundraisers were also approved as part of the consent items agreed to during the Board work session last week.
The Board also approved the minutes from several meetings, the treasurer’s report, the 2026-2027 salary schedule and pay dates, an auditor for 2026, SBDM staffing allocations, and a second capital fund request.
Members gave their assent to the 2026-2027 Professional Development Plan and approved the use of individual contract services agreements for certified school resource officers.
The Board also approved bids for athletic supplies, transportation parts, tires, food (not related to food services), oil/lube for maintenance, and general supplies.
The Board and Superintendent Philip Watts recognized Hunter Barrett as a 2025 Governor’s Scholar and Sophia Trent, Charlie Fugate, and Taylynn Seymour, winners of the America’s 250th Committee Coloring Contest.
Anais Hudson, Ivy Smith, Brylee Allen, and Valentina Paris Rose were also recognized for their efforts in the Women’s Temperance Union Coloring contest.
