BMS Runner-Ups in District Governor’s Cup

The Breathitt Middle School Academic Team traveled to Wolfe County on Saturday, January 17, for the District Governor’s Cup competition.

After a full day of written assessments and quick recall matches, the BMS team left with several individual and team awards, including the overall District Runners-Up title.

The Academic Bobcats claimed second place in both Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall.

In addition, the following students placed in individual events: Raylen Turner- 4th in Written Composition; Emilee Johnson- 5th in English Language Arts; Makaylie Whitely- 4th in English Language Arts; Sam Herald- 4th in Social Studies; Dawson Haddix- 3rd in Math; Carter Herald- 2nd in Math; Cole Price- 1st in Math; and Natalie Napier- 5th in Social Studies and 2nd in Arts & Humanities.

The team was also unanimously selected to receive the Katherine Hume Sportsmanship Award.

The members of the middle school academic team are Carter Herald, Coleston Turner, Emilee Johnson, Cole Price, Natalie Napier, Bo Wolfe, Raylen Turner, Colton Noble, Dawson Haddix, Makaylie Whitely, Sam Herald, and Anni Howard.

They will compete in the Regional Governor’s Cup Competition for Future Problem Solving on February 9 and the Written Assessment Quizzes and Quick Recall on February 14.
