Alumni Game to Honor Former Coach
July 13, 2025

An alumni softball game is planned to honor the memory and dedication of former Jackson City School Coach Danny Fugate.
The event, slated for Sunday, July 20, will remember the contributions and services provided by Fugate to a generation of girls as the assistant coach of the Jackson City Softball Tigers from 2002-2004 and as their head coach from 2005-2009.
Fugate died on April 15, 2025, at the Ephriam McDowell Medical Center in Danville, after a long battle.
Beginning in the 1980s, Fugate was a fixture on the softball and baseball fields of Breathitt County, where he coached Little League, Babe Ruth, and Ponytail teams for the Breathitt Youth Foundation (BYF), on whose Board of Directors he served. He also coached at the middle school and high school levels, where he made several trips to the regional and All-A tournaments.
The July 20 event will pit the current KCS Lady Tigers against a host of former players and Tiger alumni. The game will be held at Kiwanis Park and will begin at 2:00 p.m.
The admission to watch the athletes versus the “old-timers” is free, but the organizers are asking for a $5 donation to support the Lady Tigers’ effort to raise $1,500 to purchase a new pitching machine for the team.
Contact Julie Sygiel, Samantha Fugate, or Jackson Clemons for more information.
A healthy Breathitt County requires great community news.
