Breathitt Mother Dies from Injuries

A twenty-seven-year-old Morris Fork woman died on Monday, July 7, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington from injuries she sustained in a July 2 wreck.
Scarlett Nicole Smith was in a single-vehicle accident on Wednesday near the Breathitt-Owsley County line.
Law enforcement officers and medical personnel were called to a crash near Bob Turner Road on Highway 28 at 9:56 a.m.
Initial reports state that the car left the roadway and hit the hillside.  A caller at the scene told E911 officials that the driver was not breathing.
Smith was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was treated for multiple traumas, including a brain injury.  She was later flown by helicopter to the A. B. Chandler Medical Center and treated in intensive care for five days before her death.
The daughter of Susan (Deaton) Smith and the late Harold “Butch” Smith, she is survived by a one son, Noah, and a host of other relatives. 
Funeral services for Smith are planned for Saturday, July 12, at the Deaton Funeral Home on Old Quicksand Road. 
She will be buried in the Claude Smith Cemetery on Morris Fork.
