Jackson Woman Found Dead In Her Home

July 06, 2025

A well-known Jackson woman, often seen walking on Highway 15, was found dead in her home on Brewer’s Drive on Friday.
The Jackson Police Department was called to a trailer home near the Jaxon Inn on June 27 after her daughter, Shannon Feltner, located sixty-nine-year-old Anita J. (Hensley) Feltner in her home “unresponsive and believed deceased.”
Officer Tim Chandler responded to the scene and notified emergency medical services.  Feltner was later pronounced dead by the Breathitt County Coroner’s Office.
Police do not suspect foul play and believe Feltner died as a result of a medical issue.
Officers had spotted Feltner earlier in the day and offered to call an ambulance for her as she walked in the extreme heat and humidity on Highway 15.  She refused their offers and reportedly walked home.
Feltner was a common sight in Jackson as she walked several miles daily, usually pulling a suitcase or carrying several bags.  She frequented several stores and business establishments as she made her rounds.
She is survived by one daughter and was preceded in death by her husband and son.
No services are scheduled, and Deaton Funeral Home handled her arrangements.
Officer Tim Chandler is in charge of the death investigation.
