Hazard Band Wins Park’s Talent Contest

June 27, 2025

Seven acts performed in a special talent contest sponsored by the Jackson Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday, June 21.
When the music stopped and the judges deliberated, DownTrip, a musical group from Hazard, walked away with the top prize.  The band will be the featured opening act for Magnolia Boulevard during the 2025 Pig Out in the Park scheduled for Friday, July 4.
Jackson Parks Music Talent Showcase featured a great display of talent, according to volunteer judges Austin Strong, Nancy Herald, O. T. Watts, and Susan Harley.
John Wyatt Hall claimed the second-place spot and will also perform during the Pig Out in the Park event.  The Breathitt High School Jazzacats took third place.
The annual Pig Out in the Park is scheduled for Friday, July 4, and features inflatables, food, music, crafts, games, and the ever-popular fireworks.  Activities begin at the park at noon on Friday and end with the fireworks at about 10:30 p.m.
The Kentucky River Medical Center, the Jackson Parks and Recreation Department, the Jackson Tourism Commission, and the City of Jackson are sponsors of the 2025 Pig Out in the Park.
The kids' games and activities kick off at 1:00 p.m. and run through the greased pig contest at 5:15 p.m.  The events for children are sponsored by Breathitt ASAP, Breathitt County 4-H, Dairy Queen, and the Jackson Lions Club.
Parks Director Bittany Little and the entire park staff invite everyone to come out and enjoy the festivities.
