Haney (Fugate) Gross, age 75, of Jackson, KY passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, KY. She was born September 14, 1949, at Haddix, KY and was the daughter of the late Pearl and Margaret (Spicer) Fugate. she was preceded in death by her husband: Weldon Gross. Her daughter: Dorothy Gross Dykes. Brothers: Pearl Fugate, Jr; Matthew Fugate, Jerry Fugate, Ollie Fugate and Sam Fugate. Her sister: Sylvia Fugate Turner.
She grew up on Haddix and Big Branch, KY in Breathitt County, KY. She was the 3rd oldest of 11 children. She met Weldon Gross during a school parade in Jackson, KY and later married on March 11, 1966. Haney’s early life was spent playing with her siblings in the hills and sometimes joining her siblings in skipping school to spend the day ice skating on the frozen creek. She lived a faithful life and had a love of singing in church and at home. She was the backbone of the family for support, encouragement, sacrifice, and comfort. She was dedicated to God and her family.
She is survived by her daughter: Teresa Gaerke of Jackson, KY. Son Weldon Dwayne (Matthew) Tolson of Madison Township, OH. Brothers: Donald Gene (Georgia) Fugate and Harlan (Dora), both of Jackson, KY. Sisters: Cora (Jim) Fraley of Jackson, KY and Debbie Banfield of Hazard, KY. Grandchildren: Evelyn (Jacob) Hudson of Jackson, KY. Jessica (Talbert) Hall of Lexington, KY; Waylon (Amy) Gaerke of Lexington, KY and Kade Tolson of Madison Township, OH. Great grandchildren, Chris, Anais, Cole Weldon, and Emberly. A host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in the Fugate Cemetery, Duck Hollow Road, Lost Creek, KY. Visitation will begin Thursday at 11:00 am until time of service. Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
