Johnny Johnson

Johnny Johnson, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

He was born on September 15, 1947 in Breathitt County to the late Wilson Johnson and Elsie Raleigh Johnson.  He was also preceded in death by sisters, Juanita DeHaven and Effie Faye Collins.

Johnny dedicated his career as a mechanic in the coal mining industry before retiring. Beyond his profession, he had a passion for woodworking and took great pride in crafting furniture in his own woodshop. Many locals cherished the pieces he created, a testament to his skill and dedication.

A longtime member of Altro Church of God, Johnny found strength and community in his faith. He also treasured time spent with family at gatherings where his warmth and presence were deeply felt.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Edith Johnson; sons, James David Gilbert (Liz), Johnny Darrel Johnson (Penny), Leroy Johnson (Joyce); daughters, Lavonda Gail "Tootsie" Johnson, Connie Sue Johnson McIntosh (Michael); sisters, Mary Watts (Ken), Brenda Johnson, Wanda White (Phillip); grandchildren, Jamey Jo, James Ray, Andy, Colton, Dustin, Monica, Megan, Kenzie, Tyler, Matthew, Mason; thirteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, at the Breathitt Funeral Home Chapel 6:00 - 9:00 PM.  Funeral service will be conducted Monday, February 24, at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Chris Turner and Chris White officiating.  Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Cemetery at Altro with Andy Gilbert, Tyler Francis, Dustin Johnson, Matthew McIntosh, Mason McIntosh, Dennis Combs, Michael Combs and Jake Rice serving as pallbearers.

Johnny’s legacy lives on through the craftsmanship of his work and the love he shared with those around him. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
