Gilbert Paul Zierer
Gilbert Paul Zierer, age 70, of Mt. Sterling, KY passed away peacefully in the home he worked hard for, from a short battle with cancer. He was a graduate of DeSeles High School. After high school, Gilbert attended Western Kentucky University and completed his bachelor of science degree in Forestry at the University of Kentucky. He retired from the Kentucky Department of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement as an Environmental Control Supervisor. Gilbert enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, and cooking. After retirement he also enjoyed being a volunteer in the local Breahitt County Schools. Gilbert was born August 29, 1953 in Louisville, KY and was the son of the late Thomas L. Zierer Sr and Mary Margaret Zinner Zierer. He is survived by his loving wife: Joyce Michele Pugh Zierer of Mt. Sterling, KY. His devoted sons: Paul Justin (Alicia) Zierer and Deron Wesley Zierer, both of Lexington, KY and Alec Brandon Zierer of Mt. Sterling, KY. Six brothers: Thomas L. (Kathy) Zierer; Anthony J. (Mary Ann) Zierer, and Christopher P. (Alice) Zierer; all of Louisville, KY; Lawrence J. (Becky) Zierer of Colorado; Jospeh J. (Delilah) Zierer of VA and Robert E. Zierer of IN; Two sisters: Mary Frances Zierer Woods of Lousiville, KY and Karen M. (Edward) Ashby of IN; A very special sister in law: Susan Pugh of Jackson, KY. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Eversole officiating. Burial in the Lazarus Back Cemetery at Noctor, KY. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00-9:00 pm. Deaton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers: Jose Ortiz, Austin Sperry, Deron Zierer, Marcus Griffith, Chuck Davidson, Paul Justin Zierer, Larry Hensley.
