Lakeside Drive in Jackson to be closed beginning Tuesday, Aug. 20, for widening work on KY 15

KY 15 traffic pattern change postponed from Monday, Aug. 12

JACKSON, Ky. – The lane closure and traffic pattern change for KY 15 in Jackson, previously scheduled to begin on Aug. 12, has been rescheduled and will now take effect on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

When that traffic shift occurs, Lakeside Drive will be closed at the intersection of KY 15. and drivers will need to use a temporary access route connecting Lakeside Drive to the end of Jett Drive near the Kentucky River Medical Center. This detour was used during the Lakeside Drive rockfall mitigation project in 2014. Signs will be placed to notify drivers of the closure of Lakeside Drive.

Lakeside Drive will be closed indefinitely while blasting occurs on KY 15 between Indian Hollow Road (milepoint 17.253) and Lakeside Drive (milepoint 17.7). Northbound KY 15 traffic will be shifted into the center turn lane. This is similar to the traffic control used during the recently completed Panbowl Dam reinforcement project. Brief delays and stoppages of traffic will be necessary as the concrete barrier walls are moved into place on Tuesday.

This is all part of the project that recently got underway to widen KY 15 between the KY 30 intersection and Main Street (KY 1812/KY 3068).

A 35 mph speed limit is in place through the work zone with double fines enforced.

Updates will be posted as necessary to KYTC District 10’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages using the hashtag #KY15Project.

More than 13,000 vehicles use this section of KY 15 each day. Approximately 4,000 vehicles currently use Jett Drive (KY 3232), which serves a hospital, a nursing home, a school complex, several residences, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Department of Highways District 10 office. Drivers should use caution on Jett Drive as it absorbs the increased traffic from the Lakeside Drive closure.
