Two Injured in South Fork Wreck
July 28, 2025

after an accident on July 17.
On Friday, an early morning drive on South Fork turned dangerous for two Breathitt County residents after their vehicle ended up in Quicksand Creek.
County Howard and his 13-year-old son were traveling west on Highway 1098 when he lost control and went over an embankment into the creek near the mouth of Rose Branch. Officials said that Howard struck a large stump and flipped around after his Ford Ranger XLT left the roadway.
Howard’s son managed to get out of the vehicle and flagged down a driver who called 911 to report that Howard was still inside the vehicle in the water.
Emergency crews from the Kentucky State Police and the Quicksand and Jackson Fire Departments responded to the accident approximately one mile up South Fork.
Both Howards received injuries in the crash, and crews said that things could have been very different had the truck not landed upright on its wheels.
The roadway was closed while officials investigated the accident.
Tim Jones Wrecker Service removed the vehicle from Quicksand Creek, and the roadway was reopened about 9:30 a.m.
A healthy Breathitt County requires great community news.
